On October, 14th the Blue Hall of the Library welcomed all art amateurs for a master-class on Zhostovo art painting given by Tatiana Kurakina. Being a painter of the Zhostovo Factory, Tatiana showed how craftspeople created their famous ornamented lacquer trays by painting wonderful flowers on the black and shiny surface in real time right in front of the audience.
Along with demonstration of painting techniques Tatiana Kurakina also gave a detailed report on the history of the craftwork, of its masters and the hardships Zhostovo craftwork has faced nowadays. She was almost deluged with questions from the audience – both children and adults – about the best kind of paint for the technique, the way how to prepare the tray for painting, how long the whole process would take to get a tray painted and whether it was possible to paint on a few trays at the same time. Tatiana had all the questions answered and invited everyone who attended the master-class and found it interesting to the Zhostovo Factory. The participants of the master-class expressed their wish to have another similar event in the framework of the exhibition “Zhostovo. Tricks of the Trade”.
