An exhibition dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Marshal Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov’s birth has opened at the Museum of Military Uniforms of the Russian Military Historical Society. The exhibition project illustrates the activities of Zhukov as the Soviet Union Minister of Defense in 1955—1957. The exhibition’s primary focus is on the now forgotten reforms of military uniforms. The exposition includes items from the collection of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Victory Museum, the Grekov Studio of War Artists, the Russian State Art Library (RSAL), and private collections.
‘The chronological period of the exhibition associated with Georgy Zhukov’s tenure as minister made it possible to show in all its beauty the military uniform of the Soviet Army of 1955, which had not been specially exhibited before,’ said Kirill Vladimirovich, a uniform consultant and specialist at the Visual Information Centre of the Russian State Institute of Informatics.
Tsyplenkov solemnly presented the Museum of Military Uniforms with an invaluable gift from RSAL’s collection of duplicates—a collection album with samples of woolen fabrics that were approved for supply by the USSR Ministry of Defense in 1947.
