The catalogue was compiled by Abram Reytblat, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, an employee of the Rare Books Department of the Russian State Art Library (RSAL). The publication includes practically all the authors’ donation inscriptions in RSAL’s books for 1815—1950. (approximately 1,400 examples).
Such inscriptions characterise the author's social circle, often provide information about his place of residence at a particular point in time, and the date of the book's release. Sometimes they allow one to uncover a pseudonym or establish who wrote an anonymously published book.
