On January 22, RSAL Hosted the Vernissage of the Exhibition ‘The World of Adventures in Anatoly Itkin's Illustrations’

Date: 05.03.2020

Anatoly Itkin began his work as an illustrator in 1954, and has designed over 200 books: Russian and foreign classics, novels, fairy tales, and many other literary genres.

All these years, Anatoly Itkin has come to work at the Russian State Art Library (RSAL), where the collections contain the materials necessary for his creativity. His literary heroes are always distinguished by the historical authenticity of time and place.

For the exhibition at RSAL, the artist selected illustrations from the classics of adventure literature. Here are watercolors or ink drawings for such novels as Alexandre Dumas’ Ascanio, Three Musketeers, and Black Tulip;  Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe; Jules Verne’s Dick Sand, A Captain at Fifteen, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and The Mysterious Island; James Fenimore Cooper’s St John's Wort; Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn....

The opening of the exhibition brought together artists and publishers, friends and admirers of Anatoly Itkin’s talent in RSAL’s Blue Hall. The speakers expressed their sincere respect for Anatoly Itkin, and their admiration for his artistry, skill, and depth of the theme of each drawing.
