The presentation of the exhibition "Dynasty of the Fomins: architects and artists" took place on October 18, 2012 in the Blue Hall of the RSAL
In the year of its 90th anniversary the Russian State Art Library presents the exhibition "Dynasty of the Fomins: architects and artists." One of the founders of the State Theatre Library (now RSAL) Alexander Fomin was born and brought up in this talented family.
In the dynasty of the Fomins the artistic gift was passed on from one generation to another as a hereditary trait: the family brought forth nineteen architects and artists. Among them there is Ivan Fomin, the academician of architecture, town planner, architectural historian, artist, teacher and one of the three leaders of the Russian Neoclassicism. His son Igor, the People's Architect of the USSR, member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, teacher was one of those who restored Leningrad ruined during the World War II. The daughter of Ivan Aleksandrovich Iraida was the leading master of the book styling in 1940s-1960s. She left a noticeable imprint in the area of the industrial graphics. Their closest relatives Valery Aleksandrovich, Dmitry Valer’evich and Yuri Aleksandrovich also chose the profession of architect, while being talented artists.
At the exhibition the RSAL shows theatrical sketches and drawings of the Fomins, books and albums dedicated to the creative work of Ivan and Igor Fomins, as well as editions illustrated by Iraida Fomina from the library’s collections. At the same time, the exhibition presents watercolors, prints, book illustrations layouts, sketches of commercial art and designs of the pavilions of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (All-Russia Exhibition Center) from the family’s collections of the Fomins, as well as Igor Fomin’s graduate work provided by the Museum of Moscow Architectural Institute. Archival documents and photographs are from Moscow Main Archive Directorate and the Russian State Library.
The exhibition was open from October 15 to November 9, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
