The All-Russia Festival “Days of Russian Spirituality and Culture - Russia’s Shine” started on September, 28th in the walls of Irkutsk Regional State Universal Scientific Library named after I.I. Molchanov-Sibirskiy (IRSUSL). The Festival events were preceded by the public lecture “Pygmalion and Galatea: library and clerisy” given by the Director of the Russian State Art Library Ada Kolganova and the exhibition “The Churches of Russia”.
The lecture given by Ada Kolganova aroused great interest among the librarians and readers from the creative community of Irkutsk. The lecture was on the air in municipal and village libraries of Irkutsk region. The author raised the questions of false evaluation of capacity and current condition of libraries in modern society and the necessity to correlate the book and informational culture.
Based on the results of the survey among the readers who represent the artistic professions Ada Kolganova proved the relevance of a serious discussion about the role of library in forming of the modern intellectual. The author demonstrated the artistic role of library in creating remarkable national works of art on the example of the experience of the Russian State Art Library and proposed applying the experience and practice of special purpose libraries to a wider range of libraries thus to facilitate creative cooperation between the reader and the librarian.
Ada Kolganova received many questions from the audience which proved the relevance of the raised subject.
The presentation of the exhibition “The Churches of Russia” based on the funds of the RSAL was also a great success. The exposition included 54 digital copies of toned lithographs created in the middle of the 19th century with images of preserved, reconstructed and irretrievably lost monasteries, city and village cathedrals and chapels. The team of the Irkutsk Regional State Universal Scientific Library for their own part accompanied the lithographs with the books, albums and magazines form their library’s collections dedicated to the Russian churches.
The exhibition was highly marked by the Minister of Culture and Archives of the Irkutsk Region V.V. Baryshnikov. The Director of IRSUSL O.K. Stasyulevich emphasized how significant such projects were for regional libraries. Ada Kolganova spoke of the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and the peculiarities of the collections of the Russian State Art Library. E.E. Shumyantseva, the Head of the Cultural Programs Department, conducted a thorough excursion of the exposition. The presentation of the exhibition was a bright event visited by many readers and workers of the IRSUSL – teachers, journalists, schoolchildren and the librarians. Many thankful words were addressed to the team of RSAL along with the invitation to bring exhibitions of such kind to Irkutsk on a regular basis.
The exhibition “The Churches of Russia” was held until October 18th.
