On September 18th our Library became a welcoming place for connoisseurs and lovers of poetry. Here, in the Library’s Reader’s Museum, we organized an evening with Elena Akselrod – a famous poet, translator, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR, the author of nine collections of verse, books for children, monograph album dedicated to her noted father Meer Akselrod (1993), the book of memoirs “A Yard on Barrikadny street” (2008).
The evening to some extent resembled a meeting with the whole talented dynasty of Elena Akselrod. Elena’s poetry, well-known to the audience as well as absolutely new ones - funny, mischievous, sad and tragic, was read by the author herself and by her son – notable painter Michael Yachilevich. The Library presented the sketches of decorations made by Elena’s father Meer Akselrod in a one-day exhibition that included works of a famous theater designer that had been recently acquired by the Library. Many verses read on that day were dedicated by Elena to her father.
Rada Polischuk, Alla Gerber, Grigory Zobin and many other longtime friends of the poet participated in the event sharing their thoughts and attitudes towards Elena’s poetry.
At parting Elena Akselrod presented the Library with her books recently published in Russia and Israel.
