27-28 November 2024. The Russian State Art Library (RSAL) invites you to take part in the 16th International Scientific Readings “The Theatre Book Between the Past and the Future,” which has been held regularly since 1995.
The Theme for 2024 is: “Materials on the History of Theatre and Cinema in Library, Museum, and Archival Collections.” This time the main theme is nearly comprehensive and as such requires an interdisciplinary approach.
Theatre scholars, art historians, film scholars, cultural scientists, specialists from libraries, archives, museums, institutes, and postgraduate students of higher education are invited to participate in the conference--anyone who creates, identifies, systematises information about theatre and cinema, and provides access to it. Participation is possible both offline and online.
During the Readings, issues of working with text and visual materials, video recordings, archival documents, and book collections—both public and private—will be raised, as well as the role of these materials in the cultural and historical context, and discoveries made in the field of theatre and cinema history owing to their study.
An exhibition in memory of the outstanding theatre and film artist Eleonora Maklakova is planned as part of the conference.
The papers and reports will be published in the conference proceedings.
The working language is Russian. If necessary, presentations in English are possible.

The conference will be held at: 1 Nikoloyamskaya St, Moscow. The location of the Readings has changed owing to the closing of the main building of the Russian State Art Library for major repairs.
