“The Aesthetics of the Frame: Yevgeny Ignatyev and His World” Exhibition Opened at the Russian State Art Library to Mark the 90th Anniversary of the Birth of Belarusian Artist Yevgeny Ignatyev

An exhibition dedicated to the work of film artist, Honoured Artist of the Byelorussian SSR and winner of the USSR State Prize Yevgeny Ignatyev (1936–2010) has opened in Moscow for the first time.

The exhibition was presented at the opening by Veronika Sebrukovich, Director of the Museum of Belarusian Cinema History, a branch of the National History Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

“First and foremost, we would like to recount not only Evgeny Ignatyev’s creative and personal journey, but also to highlight his significant contribution as a production designer to script development and visual imagery,” noted Veronika Sebrukovich.

The exhibition “The Aesthetics of the Frame: Evgeny Ignatyev and His World” features materials from the collection of the National History Museum of the Republic of Belarus: documents, awards, copies of sketches, and film scripts on which he worked. The exhibits demonstrate the breadth of the artist’s creativity and his contribution to the development of cinema.

The exhibition combines national narratives with modern interactive techniques. The use of QR codes allows visitors to delve deeper into the creative process: the “Drawn and Filmed” section displays excerpts from films that brought Evgeny Ignatyev’s sketches to life, right down to specific scenes. And in the “Live Footage” section, one can see photographs of the master’s work process brought to life through the use of neural networks.

This unique project was implemented by the National History Museum of the Republic of Belarus, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, and the Russian State Art Library.
