The publications were donated to the library’s collection by Georgy Vartanovich Frangulyan (b. 1945), People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, and Professor of the International Academy of Architecture. His work combines the traditions of the classical Stroganov School, monumental art, and contemporary “off-modern” discourse. The collection includes publications spanning more than the half century of the sculptor’s career.
Frangulyan’s works are in the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the State Russian Museum, the Albertina Museum Vienna, and the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford. However, his bibliography primarily consists of foreign publications or hard-to-find exhibition catalogues. The donation to the RSAL collection will fill this gap and allow specialists, students, and researchers of theatre, film, and the plastic arts to work with high-quality printed sources. “We hope that the presented publications will seamlessly complement your card index, as well as your thematic collections of biographical entries,” the sculptor noted in the accompanying letter.
