The Day of RSAL was held at the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty

On October 17, 2019, in a festive atmosphere at the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty), RSAL’s ‘National Costumes of the Peoples of Russia in Graphics of the 18th-19th Centuries’ exhibition opened.

The exhibition includes rare materials on the history of the national costumes and the life of the peoples inhabiting the multinational Russian Empire of the 18th-19th centuries.

The exhibition was opened by the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan Director Bakhytzhamal Ospanova, who noted the importance of international cooperation for open cultural exchange between the two largest libraries.

Participants and guests of the visiting exhibition ‘National Costumes of the Peoples of Russia in Graphics of the 18th-19th Centuries’ enjoyed the presentation by RSAL Director Ada Kolganova. She talked about the importance of national libraries in preserving and developing traditional culture. Among all types of clothing, the folk costume occupies a special place. From the beginning, the Russian State Art Library has paid great attention to the collection of publications and iconographic materials on the history of clothing of different countries and peoples.

A memorandum of cooperation between the two libraries was officially signed at the event, which opens up great opportunities for expanding the interaction of the libraries and in participation in joint scientific, methodological, and educational activities. On that day, Ada Kolganova gave the lecture-workshop ‘Libraries Aid the National Arts’ for the specialists of Kazakh libraries.
